Christmas is fast approaching, with only three days left! If you’re last minute when it comes to shopping for Christmas gifts, then check out my ‘Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide, For Him and for Her’! Make sure anything you order is next day delivery!
Anyway, with Christmas upon us, also means the Boxing Day sales! Now without fail me and my friend Jennifer always tackle Selfridges on Boxing day. Some prefer to do all their sale shopping online these days. But however you choose to do it, you need to be smart about it. This is to ensure that you get the best deals. As I mentioned before, in my post about Black Friday & Cyber Monday, this is the time I buy most of my investment pieces. This is simply because I end up saving money. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity. So if there is a way to save money in my pursuit of quality, then why not?
Okay so let me let you into a little secret if you haven’t noticed already…Boxing Day sales usually start a few days before! You might have noticed your emails getting swarmed with email marketing from brands about sales yes? This is the time to getting shopping, because you will find that this is the main sale they will do over this period. 50% sale may drop to 75% on the boxing day, but it’s up to you to asses the risk of waiting!
To let you into another secret…most shops mark their sale items in codes on the labels, to prepare in advance. 0035 – may mean the item will be on sale for £35. Even if you don’t understand the codes used, at least you know what items to look out for during sales! Shhhh!

Nailing Boxing Day Sales Online
Shopping online is easier for most people these days, avoiding the business of the shops. So here are a few tips to nailing the Boxing Day sales online!
-
SAVING & FAVOURITING ITEMS IN A WISH-LIST AHEAD OF SALES
Most websites allow you to save wish-lists, and save items like ASOS. Make sure everything you would like to buy in sale is saved. This makes it easier to find, and to check if your favourite pieces are on sale first!
-
EXPLORE BRANDS IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE
Plan which brands you want to shop from the most in sale, and shop in that order. The worst is spending all your money on Brand A, when you could have got the coat of your dreams from Brand B.
-
SORT & FILTER ITEMS BY SIZE
It’s best to organise items FIRST by size. It’s the worst thing clicking on a top you really want, fall in love, then go to add to your basket and next to your size is ‘Out of Stock’. PAIN! So save yourself the heartbreak.
-
CHECK PRICES AGAINST OTHER STOCKISTS & RETAILERS
Certain online retailers put certain brands they stock on sale, where others may not. The other day Net-A-Porter had the shoes I’ve been hunting down from Aquazzura on sale!! I found them on Matches Fashion, and Farfetch…but guess what? They were full price!
-
DOUBLE CHECK IF ITEMS CAN BE HELD IN YOUR BASKET!
During sales, some websites won’t secure the items you have in your basket. So someone could be swift and buy it, as it’s not reserved! So be mindful of this while shopping the sales online.

SMASHING THE BOXING DAY SALES IN SHOPS!
Now shopping in store during sales, is not for the faint hearted. You need to make sure you’re dressed in comfy shoes, a light jumper and good coat. You also need to be ready to fight in some shops haha! However, sometimes it’s worth going to the shops, as you may find those little gems in store, that isn’t available online!
-
WAKE UP EARLY AND BE THE FIRST IN THE QUEUE
Yes I know, this is hard when your belly is full from Christmas dinner, coupled with a potential hang over. But if you want to get the best buys, you gotta be early!
-
PLAN THE SHOPS YOU WANT TO VISIT
Work out what shops you want to go to, and work it out in order of preference. If your working a street or as shopping centre, work out (from the shop you wan tot go to the most), what shops make sense to go to next.
-
CHECK THE RETURN POLICY
This is important! The worst is buying something your not sure about, and then can’t return it – as the shop you bought it from, has a no returns policy on sale items! In other shops, it might be a reduced period of time.
-
TAKE A SHOPPING PARTNER IN CRIME
Now this may not be for everyone, but shopping with a friend can make the whole experience much easier and fun! Me and Jennifer are outside on the roads from 5 am, and she’s just as determined as me to find a bargain. We literally plan the day, from shops to target items. If I see something she likes, I can be her second set of eyes and grab it, before someone else gets in there! Team work = dream work!
