Squad Goals #2 – The Side Hustle

Side Hustle - Radio Rooftop Bar - Style and the SassSide Hustle - Gucci Dionysus - Style and the Sass

Hi Guys! Back again with another Squad Goals post – this time it’s all about the side hustle!

I’ve been so busy this month, it’s been unreal! But worth it all the same. I’ve been catching up with life basically. Finally got a new wardrobe up, with five bags of old clothes to go off to charity. Win! Although, I’ve just spent so much money on H&M just now. Their collection this season is giving me life! Glad to be back in love with Hennes!

Anyway enough of the usual ramble. Last week I met up with my usual suspects, to have yet our 2nd edition of Squad Goals. I explain what this in my post here. But in summary, if this is the first time on the blog…we all meet up to discus life and business, and coach each other (as we all have different skills in different professions) on how to take things to the next level. Improving self-development basically. On this occasion we discussed our side hustles. This is in essence, anything you do, outside of your job, that brings in extra cash.

Okay so we all know that no successful person depends on one income right? Or lets rephrase that slightly…y0u can never depend on one source of income; especially if you have dreams and aspiration to achieve more. In saying that, this could be plans to own a business, that new Mercedes, the Chanel bag, or even to be able to walk into a store, buy a new sofa and not feel stretched. To be comfortable in life.

My main side hustle has been selling clothes on depop and eBay. More recently, selling exclusive limited edition  mens trainers. But this has become a bit more difficult, and seasonal. I need something to bring in a regular income, to be my pocket money. Asides from some investments, that’s it really! I guess my blog is a side hustle too. From our meeting, a few of my friends earn a minimum of £1000+ on top of their salary, just from their side hustles.

Passengers & Drivers

I guess there are two types of people when it comes to work, career and development….what I call the passengers and the drivers. The passengers are happy to sit on a bus, and wait until they get to their destination. The bus will always follow a specific route, but it may not be the fastest, just suitable for the majority of the people who need to get to the various destinations along the way. This means you’ll need to stop off, and waste time in unnecessary locations, before you get to your desired destination.  In essence, these are the people who pick a career or a job, and stay in it for years. Chasing the next pay check, and the next promotion.

The drivers, are the ones who will jump in a car, research the fastest, but most realistic route to their destination. These people are not afraid to jump on the tube or even the bus, if it makes their journey faster or easier. Drivers are more impulsive and regular risk takers. They are the dictators of their path, and their journey, and are always hungry for more.

No mater which group you fall into, the passengers or the drivers, it really doesn’t matter. Do what works for you, and makes you happy. I’m personally a driver, if I’m not happy about something I change it if possible. In the past two years, I have definitely taken more risks, and have been a bit more impulsive. This was inspired by my dad, who gave me the best advice before he passed away. I don’t want any regrets.

Top 6 Tips

  • Do what you’re good at: And perfect it. If hair is your thing, do hair. If it’s social media, get out there network and get freelance jobs.
  • Look for gaps in the market: This can be hard. But some research will always go a long way. Utilise your sources of inspiration, to come up with new innovative ideas.
  • Take risks: This one is pretty obvious. But if you want to make a change in your life you must take risks! Be spontaneous, be courageous and just put yourself out there!
  • Sacrifice time: Anything you choose to do, to generate an extra income will require time. This could be your weekends, and after work. You may need to turn down some activities, but know it will all be worth it in the end. Working full time, and running a blog means I spend my weekends shooting and writing. It’s important to surround yourself with supportive friends, who will understand when you miss their call every now and again, because they know your chasing your dreams!
  • Use your surrounding resource: Look at the resources that are around you. This could be the knowledge and skills your friends have, things you can use or borrow from work (we have all stolen some pritt stick and a stapler before haha!) Get the gist?
  • Start: This is one, along with finding time will be the hardest part. But until you do this, you can’t move forward!

So that was this months edition of Squad Goals, I hope you found this useful?! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, and visiting my blog. Let me know what you think.
