Hey Guys, Happy Tuesday!
In today’s post I’m going to be talking about what might be one of this seasons most popular trend…velvet! Now I’ve always loved the velvet trend, but this season is set out to be big. The high street is already stocking up on velvet pieces. The likes of Zara and Top Shop have already graced their stores with gorgeous velvet dresses, trousers and jumpsuits with more to come.
I had a super old velvet dress which I’ve had for years from Miss Selfridge. I used to have to wear this dress to work, but years after loved it all the same. Now that dress is with charity, I have graced my wardrobe with this beautiful jumpsuit from Top Shop.
Why Velvet?
Okay so during the AW16 shows back in February, designers such as Valentino and Roachas graced the catwalks with velvet pieces. In bright colours and layered textures. So this has set the trend this season, with some brands even fusing the embroidery trend with velvet!
While struggling for an outfit to wear last week, I managed to pick up this pleated velvet jumpsuit from Top Shop. It’s so flattering and fits perfectly. I usually have to go a size up in jumpsuits for obvious reasons haha! But in this case no. It’s a nice black velvet, almost shinny but subtle at the same time. I wore it this day on a lunch date, and then to an event later on that day. I didn’t realise how dressy the jumpsuit actually is. So I may save this for a night out or dinner next time. I guess you could always dress it down with some minimal white trainers.
Another way to update this jumpsuit is by adding a belt. Now the jumpsuit comes with it’s own belt, but I envisioned wearing it with the double ‘G’ Gucci one…let me know what you think of this. I know some people have a complex with logo belts haha!
Strangely enough, I haven’t yet picked up anything embroidery, even though thats another big trend this autumn winter…I guess I have my sights sets on other things. But I’ll let you guys know if I do!

Thanks Rita 🙂 Yeah I reckon velvet is going to be everywhere. I already have my eye on several velvet pieces. I’m going to try and be good and only invest in one other thing. Better to invest in my basics haha! Xx
